Akita City/At the castle ruins, along the river. Cherry blossoms that comfort spring in Akita

The symbolic spot of Akita is covered in cherry blossoms

Chishu Park, which was once the ruins of the castle of the Akita feudal lord, the Satake clan, is a symbol of Akita City. There are approximately 650 cherry blossom trees planted within the park, making it a popular spot for cherry blossom viewing.

If you walk for about 15 minutes from Akita Station, you will see Senshu Park. In 1603, Yoshinobu Satake, the first lord of Akita, built Kubota Castle here, taking advantage of the natural topography. The moat and earthworks surrounding it retain the remains of those days. The history of the Akita clan came to an end with the return of land ownership, and in the Meiji period, it was reborn as a park with a beautiful Japanese garden under the care of landscape architect Yasuhira Nagaoka. The garden, which reflects the scenery of each season, is loved by many people to this day.

In spring, cherry blossoms with different tastes such as Yoshino cherry trees, weeping cherry trees, and Yaezakura trees bloom throughout the park. The Senshu Park Cherry Blossom Festival, which is held around mid-April during the cherry blossom season, features various stage events and over 50 stalls, making the area lively.
