Aomori City/Enjoy the spectacular view of Mt. Hakkoda and heavy snow experience with snowshoes

Guided tours that you can join empty-handed are popular.

Mount Hakkoda, which rises to the south of Aomori City, is a group of volcanoes whose highest peak is Mt. Odake at 1,585 meters. It is also known as one of Japan's 100 famous mountains. It is a popular spot where even beginners can easily enjoy trekking as there are well-maintained mountain trails. Hakkoda is rich in nature, with alpine plants in spring and summer and autumn leaves in fall, and is also famous as one of the areas with the heaviest snowfall in Japan. You can ski and snowboard for about half a year, from December to mid-May, and enjoy high-quality powder snow during the mid-winter season. In addition, when ice and snow collide with the Aomorito fir, which grows abundantly in the Hakkoda Mountains, as it gradually grows, it forms a large frost-covered tree, also known as the ''snow monster.'' The view of the frost-covered trees from the ropeway is spectacular (the best time to see the frost-covered trees is from early January to the end of February).

Snowshoe hiking is as popular an activity as skiing and snowboarding in Mt. Hakkoda. There are a variety of tours led by guides who know everything about Hakkoda, and there are also tours where you can participate empty-handed and even rent out winter clothing and goggles. Not only can you enjoy the scenery while walking among the frost-covered trees, but you can also experience heavy snowfall and extreme cold.
