Yamagata City / Autumn leaves walk in the city “Specially designated temple’s large ginkgo” “Momiji Park”

''Momiji Park'' is a place where 190 trees are colorfully colored.

Momiji Park in Higashihara Town is a popular spot to enjoy autumn leaves in the city. Momiji Park is the pond strolling garden of Hodoji Temple, an ancient temple of the Shingon sect that once existed in this location. This garden was also rebuilt in the early Edo period when Matsudaira Tadahiro, the then lord of Yamagata Castle, rebuilt the main castle garden. It is said that Tadahiro brought in surplus stones from the Honmaru Garden and transplanted maple trees from Yoshino, Kyoto.

About 190 trees are planted around the heart-shaped pond, and as autumn deepens, the leaves of the maples and maples turn red, orange, and yellow, and the deep green of the pine trees enhances the beauty of the autumn leaves. The carp swimming gracefully in the pond is also very atmospheric. Enjoy viewing the autumn leaves while taking a leisurely stroll.

The best time to see autumn leaves is usually from early November to mid-November. Although the best time to see them is different from that of the ''Great Ginkgo of the Temple'', it is located about 750 meters away, about an 11-minute walk, so it is recommended that you take a trip to see the autumn leaves.
