Aomori City/Miyata’s Giant Ginkgo, an 800-year-old giant tree shrouded in mystery

Fall is missed by the golden carpet that stretches all over the place.

The best time to see yellow leaves is usually from late October to early November. The yellowing period for the western and eastern plants is slightly different, with the western plants receiving the most sunlight starting to change color. The giant ginkgo biloba, shining golden against the blue sky in autumn, has a majestic and mysterious beauty, but the sight of the leaves falling in the wind and the golden carpet spreading across the ground after the peak of their blooming season is over is also a sight to behold. By the way, both are male trees, so gingko nuts do not bear fruit.

The large ginkgo tree stands on the south side of Shin-Aomori Prefectural Sports Park, along the road leading to the trailhead of Mt. Azumadake, which is 652 meters above sea level. You will see it after driving about 3 minutes or 550 meters from the Animal Welfare Center bus stop intersection. There is also a spring called ''Ryujin Gosui'' nearby, so please stop by.

This road also serves as the Higashi-dake promenade (6 km in length) to the summit of Mt. Higashi-dake (652 m above sea level). You can drive to the trailhead parking lot 2km before the summit, so it's a good idea to enjoy the low mountain climb while mourning the passing of autumn.
