Fukushima City/Pray for healthy legs at Mt. Shinobu and Haguro Shrine, which is connected to the Waraji Festival
Nishizaka Inari Shrine (commonly known as Neko Inari)

Haguro Shrine, where the large waraji towers, is said to bring good luck in marriage.

The large waraji dedication of the Fukushima Waraji Festival is held on the last day of the festival. Mt. Shinobu, which consists of the three peaks of Mt. Hazan, Mt. Haguro, and Mt. Kumano, has been revered as a sacred mountain of mountain worship since ancient times, and is a mountain where Yamabushi training was performed. Haguro Shrine, which has a history of more than 1,500 years, is said to bring good luck to strong legs, and because men and women helped each other climb the snowy approach during the Akatsuki Mairi in the past, it is also said to have good luck in marriage. There is a legend that if you visit the shrine for three years in a row, your love will be fulfilled, so many people come to pray for good fortune. The old approach road called Omisaka has a steep slope, but there is also an existing paved road with a gentler slope, so it is best to climb according to your physical strength.

The old approach to the shrine is dotted with Haguro Kannon and numerous historical sites. Nishizaka Inari Shrine, commonly known as "Neko Inari," is said to have been enshrined as the guardian deity of sericulture because a Gobo fox who lost his divine powers began to exterminate rats, the natural enemies of sericulture. Currently, the shrine is popular among cat lovers as an Inari shrine that prays for the happiness of pet cats, and it also accepts dedications of photos of cats. There is a free rest area on the grounds called Kominka Nishizakaya, which is a renovated old folk house, so if you get tired of climbing, you can take a break here.
