Enjoy visiting the megaliths of Mitsuishi Shrine, Eboshi Rock, and Ishiwarizakura

The legend of demon extermination that remains at Mitsuishi Shrine has its origins not only in Sansa Odori. It is said that the name ''Iwate'' came from the fact that an oni stamped a handprint on a rock, and that this region came to be called ''Kozukata'' because the oni swore that it would never come again.

The goshuin of Mitsuishi Shrine can be obtained at Sakurayama Shrine, which is adjacent to Morioka Castle Ruins Park. Sakurayama Shrine is a historic shrine dedicated to Nobunao Nanbu, the first lord of the Morioka domain. Behind the main shrine is a gigantic Eboshi Rock that appeared when Morioka Castle was built, and is also called the ''Talisman Rock.''

Speaking of megaliths in Morioka, the "Ishiwarizakura" located on the premises of the Morioka District Court is also famous. It is about a 5-minute walk from Sakurayama Shrine to Ishiwarizakura, so we recommend that you enjoy visiting the megaliths of Mitsuishi Shrine, Eboshi Rock, and Ishiwarizakura.
