Morioka City / “World’s Largest Taiko Parade” registered in the Guinness Book of Records

A sense of exhilaration from the pleasant rhythm of the drums

The Sansa Taiko drum is about 50 cm in diameter, weighs about 7 kg, and is characterized by a red and black triangular pattern on the rim.It is said that the drum was first used to make the sound of the drum echo through the mountains to prevent demons from coming back to the village.

At the Taiko Drum Parade, all the groups participating in the Sansa Odori beat together over 10,000 Sansa drums. The high-pitched sound of tang-tang excites viewers, and its rhythmicity makes you want to start dancing. In addition to the pleasant sounds, the sight of the parade dancing while playing music is truly a sight to behold. The vividness of beating the drums as they hit the drums overhead and tilt their bodies to the right and left gives an indescribable power.

After the "World's Largest Taiko Parade," there will be a grand finale with the "Orin Odori" dance. The large ring dance is open to the general public. Anyone can join the Sansa Dance circle under the guidance of the Sansa Oherense Master. Why not experience the power of the Taiko Drum Parade for yourself this year?
