Immerse yourself in movies at “UNESCO Creative City Yamagata”

Yamagata City, a member city in the film field of the UNESCO Creative Cities Network, boasts one of the highest number of movie screens in the country, and its citizens actively participate in independent screening activities. In addition, the Yamagata International Documentary Film Festival, one of Asia's largest documentary film festivals, is held once every two years and attracts many film professionals and enthusiasts from Japan and abroad.

This year, the event will be held locally for the first time in four years for eight days from October 5th (Thursday) to October 12th (Thursday). The main project, ''International Competition,'' will screen 15 works carefully selected from 1,132 submissions from around the world, as well as a variety of programs including projects to support emerging documentary filmmakers in Asia, special invited works, and special projects from the UNESCO Creative Cities Network.

The "Yamagata International Movie Festival" will be held from November 10th (Friday) to November 12th (Sunday). This is a competition that invites video works from both professionals and amateurs and is judged by a top-notch selection committee. After winning the award, there is a scholarship system that gives them the opportunity to produce a feature film, and the festival sends encouragement to young talents who dream of becoming film directors.
