Aomori City/Mysterious Gudari Swamp in Hakkoda, Asamushi Onsen, a famous sunset spot
2023/07/31

Gudari Swamp, where clear water continues to gush out, has a mysterious beauty
Aomori Nebuta Festival, Aomori City's representative summer festival, will be held from August 2nd to August 7th. It is a traditional fire festival in which large, majestic Nebuta floats are paraded through the city, and Haneto performers dance wildly to the accompaniment of drums and flutes, chanting ''Rassera''. It is said that summer in Aomori is short, but even after the festival, the hot days continue in August.
The place we recommend as a cool spot to beat the heat is Gudari-numa. Gudari-numa is a spring-fed pond located near the Tashirodaira Pasture in the Tashiro Plateau east of Mt. Hakkoda. The underground water of Mt. Hakkoda continues to gush out, and although it has the name of a swamp, it has become a clear stream 20 meters wide right from the retarding area. Char and other species live in the streams, and aquatic plants such as sagebrush and watercress grow in clumps. It is also known to be home to five species of planaria, which have amazing regenerative abilities and can regenerate even if cut with a knife.
Just looking at the sight of aquatic plants swaying in the clear flow of water is soothing, but in August, the pretty white flowers of Baikamo bloom on the surface of the water, captivating visitors with their mysterious beauty.
To access Gudari Marsh, it is about a 20 minute walk from Tashiro Highlands, or if you are driving, take Prefectural Route 40 from Aomori to Towada and walk from the Tashirodaira Grazing Hut parking lot on the left side of the road, about a 5 minute walk. There is a 1.5km long beech forest walking path in the area, and we recommend you enjoy hiking.
