Yamagata City/Summer Zao Terrace, where you can encounter impressive views at Yamadera

Enjoy the resort feeling on the panoramic Zao Terrace

Zao is a place where you can enjoy nature in all four seasons: fresh greenery in spring, alpine plants in summer, autumn leaves in autumn, and frost-covered trees in winter. Zao, with its high altitude and cool air even in summer, is recommended for a summer getaway. What you should visit during this season is Zao Terrace, which offers a spectacular panoramic view.

First, take the gondola from the Zao Ropeway "Zao Sanroku Station" and get off at "Juhyo Kogen Station" at an altitude of 1331m while enjoying a 360° panorama. After passing through the beech path, you will see the ''Hyakumannin Terrace,'' which appeared in the railway company's Holiday Club commercial. The terrace is equipped with photogenic sofas and beach beds, and is popular for its ability to relax and enjoy panoramic views of the city and distant mountains. If you take a photo with a sofa or beach bed, it will definitely look great on SNS. There is also a wooden swing installed on the terrace, so why not take a photo and feel like Heidi, the girl from the Alps?

From Juhyo Kogen Station, take the gondola again to Jizo Sancho Station, which is 1661m above sea level. On clear days, from the rooftop observation deck, the Summit Terrace, you can see Mt. Gassan and the Asahi Mountain Range to the west, and the Pacific Ocean to the east. If the weather conditions are right, you can see a fantastic scenery of a sea of clouds.

Zao Ropeway will be holding "Summer Night Cruising" for a limited time in August and September. How about spending a romantic summer time admiring the sparkling night view and starry sky from the mountaintop terrace and Hyakumannin Terrace?
