Sendai City/Rairikyo, a sacred place for lovers, and a soothing cool experience at Sendai Umino-Mori Aquarium

I want to experience it in summer! Realistic dolphin performance

An aquarium is a place where you can always feel cool, regardless of the weather. Sendai Umino-Mori Aquarium, located just off the Sendai Port IC on the Tohoku Expressway, is an aquarium where you can fully experience the charm of the sea, including a large aquarium that recreates the sea of Sanriku, exhibits of sea creatures from Japan and around the world, and performances by dolphins, sea lions, and birds.

At the "Maboya Forest" right after entering the entrance, you will be greeted by sea squirts, a specialty of Miyagi, known as "pineapples of the sea," suspended from ropes in the same condition as when they were farmed. This is an exhibit unique to Miyagi, so be sure to look up at the aquarium on the ceiling.

One of the highlights is the 14m wide and 7.5m deep aquarium ''Inochi Kirameku Umi,'' which recreates the Sanriku sea where the Oyashio and Kuroshio currents collide, and houses 30,000 creatures from 50 species, including sardines and star rays. The sight of about 25,000 sardines swimming in a school is especially spectacular. It makes you feel the strength of life.

What you should definitely experience in summer is Tohoku's largest dolphin, sea lion, and bird performance. Umino-Mori Stadium, which accommodates 1,000 people, has no acrylic board separating the pool and audience seats, so you can enjoy the immersive performance from any seat. It is especially popular with children as you can get splashed by the dolphins if you sit in the front row. If you want to watch from the front row but don't want to get your clothes wet, bring a raincoat.

In addition to regular exhibits, the aquarium also holds various limited-time events, so we recommend checking the website in advance before making plans for your visit.
