Akita City/“Inaniwa Udon” and “Babahera Ice” will help you feel cool on a hot day

The colorful parasols are a landmark! “Babahera Ice” with a nostalgic taste

Colorful parasols can be seen along roadsides and event venues in Akita. This is the store of ''Babahera'', a summer tradition in Akita. Akita Prefecture residents have been familiar with it since childhood, and it is like a soul food. Under a parasol, a salesperson with an apron on her cheeks scoops ice cream from a large can and deftly forms it into the shape of a rose.

Babahera, which was born in Oga City, started when local mothers sold ice cream during their breaks ''Baba Hera'' because of the way middle-aged and elderly women use a spatula to put ice cream into cones.

The standard ones are the pink strawberry flavor and the yellow banana flavor. Its sherbet-like crunch and simple sweetness are popular with a wide range of people, from children to the elderly, and the conversation with the salespeople is also a fun part of the fun.

The store will be open from late March to early November. They are often open at shopping centers and tourist facilities in Akita City, so if you see colorful parasols, be sure to stop by.
