Morioka City/Vivid “early summer green” contrasts with “autumn red”
2023/07/09

Both the garden and the floor are dyed in the beautiful color of ''blue maple''.
Nansho-so in Morioka City is famous for its ''toko maple'', where the autumn leaves shine on the polished floor, but the ''green maple'' that has just begun to bud is also very atmospheric.
Nanchosho is a mansion built in Morioka, his hometown, by Yasugoro Segawa, who ran the Arakawa Mine in Akita Prefecture and was known as the "Mining King of Michinoku." After that, as the owners changed hands, the building underwent additions and renovations, resulting in its current form. Sasarako clapboards, stucco walls, and glazed red tile roof. The interior is an orthodox shoin-style Japanese room with an open porch surrounding the garden, making it a solid building that maintains Morioka's modern Japanese style.
The garden is located on the south side of the main house, and is designed in a ''chisenkaiyushiki'' style, where you can admire the garden while circling around the pond. Approximately 50 trees, mainly Japanese maples, have been planted, and the garden is designed so that you can see the entire garden from the ''Nansho-no-ma'' room, where you can see the floor maples.
By the way, during the season of blue maples, the reflection on the floor is called ''Yukamidori''. It's said that you can enjoy it until around the end of June every year, so be sure to stop by.
