Aomori City/A moving experience in the bay area where the charm of Aomori is condensed

Have fun getting to know Aomori at two eye-catching facilities along the coast

Aomori City is a scenic city full of nature, facing Aomori Port located at the innermost part of Mutsu Bay. The area within the city centering around Aomori Port and JR Aomori Station is called the "Aomori Bay Area" and is a tourist hub. Another feature is that there are many facilities within walking distance where you can see, touch, and experience Aomori's culture and traditions.

5 minutes walk from Aomori Station. The yellow ship with a total length of 132m floating in the sea is the ''Seikan Ferry Memorial Ship Hakkodamaru.'' This ship, which connected Aomori Port and Hakodate Port for 80 years from 1908 to 1988, transporting many people and cargo, has been moored and preserved in almost the same condition as when it entered service after the Seikan Ferry was discontinued, and is now open to the public as a museum. Inside the ship, there are many exciting experiences such as touching the rudder and control equipment in the wheelhouse and learning about the history of the Seikan Ferry from panels and a mini-theater. The view from the navigation deck on the 4th floor and the world-rare vehicle deck equipped with cargo vehicles are also must-sees.

The triangular-shaped building that stands out by the sea is ''Aomori Tourism and Products Center ASPAM''. In addition to shops and restaurants that sell Aomori's specialty products, there is also a theater where you can try your hand at making kogin sashimi and other crafts, and watch the seasonal scenery and Nebuta Festival in impressive 3D digital images. Furthermore, from the observation deck located on the 13th floor of the building, you can enjoy a 360-degree view of the cityscape, Mutsu Bay, Shimokita Peninsula, and more. The night view of Aomori Bay Bridge is also popular.
