Cherry Blossoms
Sendai City/A historic cherry blossom viewing spot that has watched over the city’s changes.

A famous spot for weeping cherry blossoms that are in full bloom after the Yoshino cherry trees.
Katsuraoka Park is an urban park that rivals the aforementioned Nishi Park in terms of size and location, and is also known as a historic cherry blossom viewing spot. Its origins as a ''cherry blossom viewing spot'' date back to when Lord Date Tsunamura, the fourth lord of the Sendai domain, planted more than 1,000 cherry blossom trees, including weeping cherry trees, brought from Kyoto here. Currently, there are nearly 360 cherry blossom trees planted, mainly weeping cherry, but also Someiyoshino, Yaezakura, Higanzakura, and Ukonzakura, which blooms with pale yellow flowers. Each variety reaches its peak blooming at different times, so it can be enjoyed for a relatively long period of time. The Cherry Blossom Festival is held to coincide with the blooming of the cherry blossoms, where you can enjoy the cherry blossoms illuminated at night, as well as the many stalls lined up.
In addition, in Sendai City, you can enjoy cherry blossoms of various scales, from cherry blossom viewing spots with cherry blossom viewing venues to spectacular famous trees.
This spring, why not take a “cherry blossom walk” to see cherry blossoms all over the place?
