Cherry Blossoms
Yamagata City/Illuminated cherry blossoms are reflected on the water surface of the moat

A 2.3km cherry blossom tunnel that runs along the river.
Many Yamagata residents would mention the Umamigasaki Sakura Line as another famous cherry blossom viewing spot. This is a 2.3 km long line of cherry blossom trees along the embankment of the Umamigasaki River that runs through the city.About 200 cherry trees are planted on both sides of the road that runs along the river, and when they are in full bloom, they turn into a tunnel of beautiful cherry blossoms, covering the entire field of view in cherry blossom color.
At night during the flowering season, an approximately 830m section is illuminated, creating a fantastical ''Night Cherry Blossom Road'' that is different from the daytime atmosphere. It's nice to look at the cherry blossoms from the car window while driving, but if you want to fully enjoy the cherry blossoms, we recommend taking a walk. There is also a parking lot on the opposite bank of the Umamigasaki River.
The timing of flowering varies depending on the climate of the year, but in 2020, the flowers bloomed much earlier than usual, and the lights were illuminated from the beginning of April. Please make your plans early and come see the cherry blossoms in Yamagata.
