Sendai City/Its shining appearance is like a jewel. Enjoy Sendai strawberries that herald the arrival of spring

Let's go to a strawberry picking spot in Sendai city!

Watari Town and Yamamoto Town are famous strawberry producing areas in the prefecture, but there are also tourist farms in Sendai City where you can enjoy strawberry picking. "JR Fruit Park Sendai Arahama" is a tourist farm that opened in 2021 as a way to revitalize Arahama, Wakabayashi Ward, which was severely damaged in the Great East Japan Earthquake. You can experience picking seasonal fruits such as blueberries, pears, grapes, and apples throughout the year, and you can enjoy strawberry picking from January to mid-June (tentative).

Six varieties including ''Nikoniko Berry'' and ''Mouikko'' are grown in the greenhouse, and you can pick them while standing without bending your back. The best part of strawberry picking is being able to eat freshly picked, juicy strawberries on the spot. The key is to look for strawberries that are ripe and red near the stem. Strawberries are sweeter at the tip, so if you eat from the stem end, the sweetness will last until the end. Part of the fun is comparing different varieties and finding the one you like best (*The number of varieties that can be picked is limited each day).

The facility also has a cafe-restaurant where you can enjoy dishes and desserts made with plenty of local ingredients, and a direct sales shop that sells fresh vegetables grown by local farmers and fruits picked within the garden. An added bonus is that you can enjoy playing, eating, and shopping all in one place.

If you are coming by car, it is approximately 10 minutes from the Sendai Higashi IC on the Sendai Tobu Road. If you are using public transportation, get off at Arai Station on the Sendai Municipal Subway Tozai Line. From Arai Station, get off at the Sendai Municipal Bus bound for Earthquake Remains Sendai City Arahama Elementary School and get off at "Earthquake Disaster Remains Sendai City Arahama Elementary School" and walk for about 5 minutes.

After enjoying strawberry picking, please stop by the Earthquake Ruins of Sendai City Arahama Elementary School, which saved the lives of 320 children, teachers, and residents from the tsunami.
