Fukushima City/Azuma Kofuji’s “Snow Rabbit” heralds the beginning of spring in Fukushima

Take a spring stroll at Mt. Hanami, a paradise full of flowers in full bloom.

At Hanamiyama, Fukushima City's most famous flower spot, flowers such as plum, forsythia, Tokaizakura, Someiyoshino, and Japanese peach bloom in spring, and the entire area around Hanamiyama Park is dyed in spring colors.

Hanamiyama Park is a park built over 70 years by individual flower and tree farmers and their families. The second-generation owner, the late Mr. Ichiro Abe, who cultivated flowering trees on the mountain he owned, opened the park to the public as ''Hanamiyama Park'' in 1959 with the belief that ''flowers can soothe people's hearts, just as we can be healed by flowers.'' The area where Hanamiyama Park is located is filled with the original Japanese landscape of flowering and tree fields, streams, and villages. The late photographer Shotaro Akiyama introduced the area as ''Fukushima has a paradise,'' and it became a tourist attraction that attracts cherry blossom viewing visitors from all over the country.

The charm of Mt. Hanamiyama is that not only one type of flower blooms, but also a variety of colors such as white, yellow, red, and pink. Approximately 70 types of flowers bloom one after another at different times, so you can enjoy it for a long time. Every year, in early March, plums, lotus cherry blossoms, and cornelian cornflowers begin to bloom, and in the latter part of the same month, tokaizakura, higanzakura, forsythia, and magnolias begin to bloom. Then, in early April, Yoshino cherry trees and Japanese peach trees bloom, creating a landscape filled with hundreds of flowers.

From the summit of Hanamiyama Park, you can see the city of Fukushima below, and on clear days, the Azuma Mountain Range and the Adatara Mountain Range, so be sure to look for the ''Snow Rabbit'' at Azuma Kofuji.

Please note that traffic restrictions will be in place around Mt. Hanami from March 25th (Saturday) to April 16th (Sunday), which is the peak viewing period. During the restriction period, we recommend using the paid parking lots around Fukushima Station and the temporary bus "Hanamiyama" that runs from the east exit of Fukushima Station to the Hanamiyama Park temporary parking lot.
