Today we will be traveling somewhere to report, mainly focusing on the six prefectures of Tohoku. I love traveling both domestically and internationally, even in my private life.

Aomori City/Sukayu Onsen, a secret hot spring that continues to preserve the culture of hot springs, and the frost-covered trees of Mt. Hakkoda
2022/12/28

A spa that has been popular for over 330 years
The Hakkoda Mountain Range, which rises majestically in the southern part of Aomori City, is a volcanic belt made up of 18 mountains. At the western foot of the mountain, at an altitude of approximately 900 meters, is Aomori's famous hot spring, Sukayu Onsen. It is one of the heaviest snowfall areas in Japan. This time, we will introduce the charm of Sukayu Onsen, which many people visit even in the harsh winter.
Sukayu Onsen, discovered over 330 years ago in 1684, has been popular as a hot spring spa since the Edo period. ''Toji'' means staying in a hot spring area for a long time and improving your physical condition while taking a bath. The standard is to go around the hot springs every 7 days, and there are many hot springs where you go around the hot springs every 21 days, but Sukayu Onsen is highly effective, and there is a legend that ''it takes 10 days to go around the 3 days, and it will be effective against all kinds of illnesses,'' and many people visit the hot springs from all over the country in search of its effectiveness. *The number 9 is considered to be the 10th day because it is considered to be bitter and bad luck.
The signature feature of Sukayu Onsen is the 160-tatami-sized ''Hiba Senninburo'' made entirely of cypress wood. There are two bathtubs, a kaburiyu, and a cassette bath in an open space with no pillars. One of the baths, ''Netsu no Yu,'' has a water temperature of 41 to 42 degrees. The hot spring water comes from just below the bathtub, and the bathtub is filled with fresh hot water that has never been exposed to air. The other one, ''Shibu-Rokubu no Yu,'' is a little hotter at 43 degrees. The name comes from the fact that it is about four to six minutes warmer than ''netsu-no-yu.'' All five sources at Sukayu Onsen are acidic and sulfur-containing springs. There is a faint smell of sulfur from the cloudy water.
Since "Hiba Senninburo" is a mixed bath, some people may feel reluctant. For those people, we have set up a women-only time slot. You can also take a bath wearing women's bathing clothes sold at the shop. Furthermore, the small public bath called Tama-no-Yu, which is made from cypress wood, is separated by gender, so you can take a bath with peace of mind.
The elegant wooden inn has an inn building and a spa building, and the spa building is also equipped with a kitchen for self-catering. One of the best parts of spa therapy is cooking your own meals while chatting with other spa guests.
The retro atmosphere, the large public bath luxuriously made with cypress wood from Aomori, and the abundant hot spring water will soothe not only your body but also your mind.
