Morioka City/First time held! “Morioka Illumination Bright” that lights up the city

A dome of light and a tunnel appear at the main venue.

From Morioka City, we would like to introduce the first "Morioka Illumination Bright". This event, which is being held from December 16, 2022 (Friday) to February 18, 2023 (Saturday), is an illumination event with illuminations installed at seven venues in the central city area, enveloping the winter city in warm light.

At the main venue, the plaza in front of Morioka History and Culture Museum, the trees are decorated with illuminations, as well as a dome of light that you can enter and a long tunnel of light, creating a fantastic space that will make you feel as if you have wandered into another world.

Morioka History and Culture Museum is located in Morioka Castle Ruins Park (Iwate Park), and opened in July 2011 as an enlarged and renovated building of the former Iwate Prefectural Library, which was designed by the late world-famous architect Kiyonori Kikutake. The history and culture zone on the second floor introduces the history and culture of Morioka, including the castle town's Emaki Theater, a reproduction model of Morioka Castle, and exhibits of items related to the Nanbu family, the feudal lords. The tourist exchange zone on the first floor, where admission is free, introduces festivals and sightseeing information such as the traditional "Chagu Chagu Umako" and "Morioka Sansa Odori," so why not take advantage of it before the lights are turned on?

To access Morioka History and Culture Museum, it is about a 20-minute walk from the east exit of JR Morioka Station via Kaiun Bridge and Main Street. If you are taking a bus, take the Morioka city center circulation bus "Dendenmushi" (counterclockwise) or the Iwate Prefectural Transportation/Iwate Prefecture Kita bus bound for "Morioka Bus Center" for about 10 minutes, get off at "Kencho/City Hall-mae" and walk for about 4 minutes.
