Aomori City/Enjoy winter “Snow! Lights! Art! Aomori Winter Wonderland”

There are many events to experience the charm of Aomori in winter.

The Aomori Snow Lantern Festival will be held from February 3rd (Friday) to February 5th (Sunday) at the plaza west of Wa Rasse, where the lights of snow lanterns create a fantastical world. This time, in collaboration with the Tohoku Kizuna Festival 2023 Aomori, which will be held in Aomori City next year, the festival will be decorated with the motifs of festivals in six Tohoku cities. You can also try making a "WISH candle" by writing your wishes on a candle holder and lighting it, so why not try your hand at creating memories of your trip?

The 45th Aomori Winter Festival, which will be held at Aoumi Park from February 11th (Saturday/Holiday) to February 12th (Sunday), is an annual event featuring a giant snow slide created by the Japan Ground Self-Defense Force Aomori Garrison. Aomori is full of events that the whole family can enjoy, such as making stick bread, which is made by wrapping dough around a long stick, kite flying, and snow soccer tournaments.

''The Motsuke Festival & Winter Fireworks'' will be held on February 11th (Saturday/Holiday), where men in loincloths and happi coats will engage in a tug-of-war on the snow. ''Motsuke'' is a Tsugaru dialect word that means ''a person who is in a good mood'' or ''a person who is enthusiastic.'' Watching the ''Motsuke'' compete in a heated battle even as the temperature dips below zero, you'll want to say ''Keppare'' (go for it!). Be sure to watch the finale fireworks soaring into the clear night sky.

An event to enjoy Aomori's winter: "Snow! Lights! Art! Aomori Winter Wonderland." After enjoying yourself to your heart's content, we recommend warming up with some hot local delicacies such as ''Ginger Miso Oden'' or ''Tsugaru Ramen'' made with dried sardines.
