Morioka City/Nanchoso The “floor maple” reflected on the floor is a unique feature of a Meiji retro mansion.

People's desire to preserve the mansion saved the mansion from crisis.

Nanchoso was once in danger of disappearing. A plan was proposed for a major developer to purchase the land and build condominiums there. However, the Morioka Citizens' Cooperative Association believed that losing this garden would be a loss to the city, and in 1987 decided to purchase it as joint property of its members. After that, the Iwate Consumers' Cooperative Society, which became its successor, took over the maintenance and management, and it is said that it opened to the public in 2000. Nowadays, the quaint appearance of the building and the beauty of the garden have become widely acclaimed, and it has even been used for movie shoots and location photos for weddings.

If you go a little further, you will be close to Morioka Castle Ruins Park, a famous spot for autumn leaves where more than 400 trees such as maples and maples turn red and yellow, and the Iwate Bank Brick Building, designed by Kingo Tatsuno, who is known for designing Tokyo Station. This fall, why not enjoy walking around town enjoying the combination of autumn leaves and Meiji retro style?
