Enjoy the bright autumn leaves from both outside and inside the building

There is a spot in the center of Morioka City where you can enjoy autumn leaves in a modern Meiji era atmosphere. That is "Nanshoso". This mansion was built in 1885 (Meiji 18) by Yasugoro Segawa, a businessman from Morioka. Over the next 130 years, the owner of the house changed to Taro Oyama, who served as the fifth mayor of Morioka, Katsuda Kindaichi, who was the actual manager of Morioka Bank, and Tahei Akazawa, a kimono wholesaler, and the house is now owned by Iwate Consumers' Co-operative Society.

Nanchoso's building is of course magnificent, but its garden is also a masterpiece that took several years to complete by the first owner, Segawa. It is built in the ''Chisenkaiyushiki'' style, which allows you to admire the scenery while going around the pond, and about 50 trees with beautiful autumn leaves are planted, with a focus on about 40 Japanese maples. The autumn leaves change at a relatively slow pace due to the location, which is less exposed to the cold. You can enjoy it for about a month, including the peak in early November when the entire garden turns bright red and yellow.

The beauty of autumn leaves here is not limited to the garden. One of the pleasures is the brocade embroidery that you can see through the glass door, using the building's retro setting as a frame. In particular, in the ''Ita-no-ma'' room, which has large glass doors on the east and south sides, you can also enjoy the ''Toko Maple'', where the brightly colored autumn leaves are reflected on the polished floorboards. In addition, the garden will be illuminated from 16:30 to 19:30 on November 9th (Wednesday) to November 13th (Sunday) during the autumn leaves season. The sight of the brightly colored leaves of the trees emerging in the dusk creates a mystical atmosphere.
