Akita City/Akita International Dahlia Garden: Colorful dahlias created by “God” and the wonders of autumn leaves

A show of autumn colors created by autumn leaves and colorful dahlias

When we think of ''autumn leaves,'' we usually enjoy the changing colors of broad-leaved trees such as maples, maples, and ginkgo biloba, but the combination of autumn-colored trees and autumn flowers is also very tasteful. Akita City offers such fun.

The Akita International Dahlia Garden is one of the best spots in Japan where you can see 7,000 dahlias of approximately 700 varieties. It is not a garden for the sole purpose of viewing, but rather a breeding garden whose main purpose is to improve varieties and create new varieties, and many of the dahlias you see in flower shops today were born from this garden.

Mountains such as Mt. Nukazuka rise along the road leading to the dahlia garden. The mountain surface starts to change color from the top to the base around late October every year. This is also the time when the dahlia flowers are at their brightest. This season, be sure to go on a drive to see the autumn leaves, with the dahlia garden as your destination.
