Aomori City/Jogakura Ohashi Bridge: Enjoy the autumn scenery of the gorge that stretches out across the entire field of view at “Japan’s best bridge”
2022/09/29

It looks like the color has been spread all the way to the valley floor 120m below!
The Towada/Hakkoda area extends to the north of Towada-Hachimantai National Park. It is an area full of nature, including the Hakkoda Mountains, whose highest peak is Mt. Odake at 1,585m, Oirase Gorge, which is a nationally designated special scenic spot, and Lake Towada, which boasts the third deepest lake in Japan. I don't think many people know that there is one of the best autumn foliage spots in Aomori.
Jogakura Stream is known for its steep cliffs. The Jogakura Ohashi Bridge, which spans the top of the bridge, is famous as Japan's best arch bridge with a total length of 360 meters and an arch span length of 255 meters. I also find it disgusting that the bridge was deliberately left unpainted so as not to spoil the surrounding scenery. The distance to the valley floor is 122 meters, and the view overlooking the mountain stream from the bridge is breathtaking! On a clear day, you can see the Hakkoda Federation, Aomori City, and Mt. Iwaki in the distance.

The peak of autumn leaves is usually around early October. From along the mountain stream to the top of the mountain, beech, oak, maple, and birch trees color the view in a gradation of yellow and red. If you would like to take a closer look at the scenery or take photos, please park your car at the parking lot at the base and then walk to the sidewalk on the side of the bridge. You will be captivated by the vivid colors of the autumn leaves and the dynamism of the height differences unique to the canyon.
